Considerations regarding using a stereo passive guitar cabinet with Reload II's CAB outputs

Torpedo Reload II | Stereo and dual cabinets setup

With two speaker (CAB) outputs, Reload II supports both dual-mono and stereo configurations from a mono source, whether it’s a tube amp or a pedalboard/modeler rig. Depending on the type of cabinet you connect, we recommend following the guidelines below.

In a setup involving 2 cabinets the following points are important to consider:

  • Each CAB output on the Reload II is powered independently, allowing you to connect cabinets with different impedance ratings. The built-in power amp automatically matches the impedance of each output, with a minimum load requirement of 4 Ohms per cabinet. For example, you can run a 4-Ohm cabinet alongside a 16-Ohm cabinet simultaneously.
  • Use only speaker cables with straight jack connectors to prevent the metal housings from making contact at the Reload II’s CAB outputs.

In a setup involving a passive stereo cabinet (such as a 2x12 or 4x12 with dual inputs), the following points are important to consider:

  • Current MESA/Boogie cabinets cannot be used in a single-cabinet stereo setup. This relates directly to the warning label (see image below), noting all speaker inputs share a common ground.
  • This common ground poses a risk to the Reload II’s power amp. If detected, the amp will enter safety mode, the rear red LED will illuminate, and no sound—or only intermittent sound—will be produced.
  • Always use speaker cables with straight jack connectors to prevent the metal housings from touching at either the cabinet inputs or the Reload II’s CAB outputs.
  • Before connecting, confirm with the cabinet manufacturer that the inputs are not wired with a common ground.
