In Short, No. The impedance of the cabinet connected to a CAB output on Reload II does not need to match Reload II’s input impedance. Reload II’s input impedance only needs to match your amplifier’s speaker output impedance, not the cabinets connected to Reload II. Here are our tips and some useful information when it comes to setting up your amplifier and companion cabinet(s) with Reload II
Reload II’s AMP IMPEDANCE knob (rear panel) must be set to match the amplifier’s speaker output impedance. This ensures the amp sees a proper load. The cabinets connected to Reload II do not influence this input impedance requirement.
How Reload II Handles Cabinet Impedance
Reload II includes an internal power amp that automatically adapts to the impedance of each connected cabinet. You may use cabinets rated at 4Ω or higher and use cabinets with different impedance ratings on each of Reload II’s CAB outputs simultaneously.
Recommended Cabinet Power Ratings For Single-Cabinet Use
For safe operation with one cabinet connected to a CAB output, the cabinet should support at least:
- 215 W RMS @ 4Ω
- 120 W RMS @ 8Ω
- 50 W RMS @ 16Ω
Using Two Cabinets
As noted above, you can connect two cabinets with different impedances to the two CAB outputs of Reload II. Different impedances will result in different power distribution between the outputs. In this configuration, the maximum total power available is:
- 150W RMS @ 4Ω
- 120 W RMS @ 8Ω
- 50 W RMS @ 16Ω
Wet/Dry/Wet Setup Considerations
If you run a Wet/Dry/Wet rig where:
- Cabinets A and B connect to Reload II’s CAB outputs — your Wet Cabinets
- Cabinet C connects directly to the amplifier’s speaker output - your Dry cabinet
then the amplifier sees Reload II and cabinet C in parallel. In this situation, it is important to adhere to the following:
- Set Reload II’s input impedance to match cabinet C’s impedance. This ensures the combined parallel load stays within the amplifier’s safe operating range.
- Verify your amplifier’s minimum impedance requirements when running two loads in parallel.
- Cabinets A and B on Reload II’s outputs do not affect Reload II’s input impedance. They only need to be rated at 4Ω or higher.
