Calibrating GENOME’s Input & Your Audio Interface

Calibrating GENOME’s Input & Your Audio Interface

Input Calibration allows GENOME to accurately match the signal level expected by compatible amplifier and pedal models. When configured correctly, it ensures consistent behavior between different model formats and technologies, helping them respond as intended to your instrument's input signal.

  • TSM-Ai Amplifiers
  • TSM-Ai Drive Pedals
  • Calibrated NAM files loaded in Codex
  • Ampnet files loaded in Paradex

For TSM-Ai Amplifiers and Drive Pedals, calibration is applied automatically.
For NAM and Ampnet models, Input Calibration and Output Calibration must be enabled in the corresponding Codex or Paradex instance settings.

Input Calibration Location

The Input Calibration setting can be found in:

  • Main Menu → Preferences

The default value is set to +10 dBu.
This value can be modified at any time. You may also define a new default value, which will be applied automatically to future GENOME instances. Input Calibration is an instance-level GENOME setting and is not stored within Rig Presets.

Choosing the Correct Input Calibration Value

The Input Calibration setting should match the maximum input level of the audio interface input you are using when its gain is set to 0 dB.
This specification is typically available in your audio interface documentation and may be listed as:

  • Maximum Input Level
  • Maximum Input Level @ Minimum Gain *
  • Input Headroom
  • Maximum Input Before Clipping

*This naming convention usually means Minimum Gain is a negative value (padded input), and not 0.

Depending on the manufacturer, this value may be expressed in dBu.
This value is usually between 0 and +20 dBu.
If you cannot find this information, or if the published specification is unclear, please contact your audio interface manufacturer for confirmation. Keep in mind that maximum input level specifications can vary depending on how they are measured and reported, and may not always correspond exactly to the interface's effective operating level.

When to Use Input Calibration

Input Calibration is primarily intended for use with compatible amplifier, drive pedal and studio outboard gear models.
If no compatible component is present in the signal chain, the Input Calibration control behaves as a simple input gain adjustment.
For this reason, if GENOME is being used only for mixing or effects processing (such as EQ, modulation, delay, reverb, or cabinet simulation) within a larger calibrated plugin chain, the Input Calibration setting should generally be left at its default value of +10 dBu.

Is Input Calibration Required?

No.
GENOME will continue to function normally even if the Input Calibration value is not configured. Most users can achieve excellent results without adjusting this setting.
However, setting the correct calibration value allows compatible AI-based amplifier and pedal models to operate under the conditions they were designed and captured for, resulting in the most accurate and consistent behavior across supported model formats.
