Audio Interface Setup for GENOME on iPad

Audio Interface Setup for GENOME on iPad

GENOME iOS is designed to work with compatible Core Audio audio interfaces on qualifying iPads, enabling professional-grade guitar and bass workflows directly within GENOME. This guide covers the basic setup process for connecting and configuring an audio interface with GENOME on iPad.

What You Need

To use GENOME on iPad, you will require:

  • A compatible iPad supported by GENOME iOS
  • GENOME iOS, GENOME Suite iOS or GENOME Intro iOS installed from the App Store
  • A compatible USB audio interface with Core Audio support
  • The correct USB-C, USB or Apple-compatible adaptor/cable for your iPad
  • Headphones, monitors or speakers connected to your audio interface
  • A powered USB hub or external interface power supply where required

Please note: Some bus-powered audio interfaces may work directly from the iPad. Others require additional power, especially interfaces with multiple inputs/outputs, phantom power or higher current draw. If your interface is not detected, disconnects unexpectedly or behaves inconsistently, use a powered USB hub or the manufacturer’s recommended external power supply.

Connecting Your Audio Interface

  • Connect your audio interface to the iPad using the appropriate cable, adaptor or powered USB hub
  • Power on the interface if it requires external power
  • Open GENOME iOS
  • GENOME should detect the connected interface

Once connected, audio input and output routing can be configured from within GENOME’s Audio Preferences.

Microphone Access Permissions

GENOME requires microphone access in order to receive audio input from a connected audio interface. To verify microphone permissions:

  • Open the iPad Settings app
  • Navigate to Privacy & Security > Microphone
  • Ensure GENOME is enabled

If microphone access is disabled, GENOME will not receive audio input from the connected interface.

Selecting Your Audio Interface in GENOME

GENOME iOS allows you to select the active audio device directly within the application. To select your interface:

  • Open GENOME
  • Tap the Menu (☰) icon
  • Navigate to Preferences > Audio
  • Under Audio Device, select your connected audio interface
  • Once selected, define the inputs, outputs latency settings and sample rate settings within the Audio Preferences window

Once selected, GENOME will route audio input and output through the chosen device.

Please note: Your interface must already be connected, powered where required and recognised by iPadOS before it can be selected in GENOME.

Using GENOME with USB-C iPads

USB-C equipped iPads can often connect directly to compatible USB-C audio interfaces. However, direct connection does not guarantee sufficient power for every interface.
Please note: Some interfaces may still require a powered USB hub, external power supply or manufacturer-specific connection method. Always refer to your audio interface manufacturer’s documentation for recommended iPad operation.
