Torpedo Reload II - General Audio Troubleshooting
Torpedo Reload II offers a myriad of connectivity options for a diverse range of applications; as such, there may be instances where no audio can be heard from any of the LINE or CAB outputs. Our guidelines below provide a series of checks to enact if such issues present themselves when configuring Reload II into your Studio or Live Backline
Front Panel Configuration
Reload II features a dual channel architecture with selectable LINE and AMP Sources for each channel. Please ensure you have selected the correct Source for each Channel noting that the AMP source can be sent to both CHANNEL A & B but LINE A can only be sent to CHANNEL A and LINE B can only be sent to CHANNEL B. Please also ensure that your connected monitoring device is being fed with signal using the CHANNEL-specific knobs named CAB and OUTPUT for the CAB A & B and LINE OUT A & B outputs respectively.
Audio Cables & Speaker Cables
- As a starting point, please ensure you are using the correct cable types for the related connectors on Reload II’s rear panel
- For the LINE IN A & B connectors, either a TRS or TS cable can be used
- For the LINE OUT A & B connectors, a standard XLR cable is recommended or an XLR to TRS cable (ensuring the TRS cable is configured for ground / negative / positive at the sleeve, ring and tip respectively)
- For connectors to and from the FX loop, TS cabling is recommended
- For the AMP IN and CAB OUT A & B connectors, a speaker cable must be used at all times
- Providing the cabling outlined above conforms to our recommendations and no audio output remains prevalent, please start isolating each signal configured within Reload II’s architecture
- First simplify your signal flow using a single input, no FX loop and a single CAB or LINE output - this will determine if the FX loop is the root cause of the issue, or whether the issue stems from faulty cabling used to connect any source or monitoring equipment; please note, this may also indicate issues with the peripheral equipment connected to Reload II including any Line Level Devices, interfaces or traditional guitar/bass cabinets
- If no audio output is still prevalent, please first try changing cabling to rule out the possibility any cables within the configuration are faulty
- If audio can be heard, please try reconnecting the FX loop and gauge whether this causes any issues - similar to before, if no audio is heard once the FX loop is connected, please try changing all cabling
- If the problem persists, please read on for further remedial strategies to rectify this issue
The FX Loop
Torpedo Reload II’s full-featured FX loop offers multiple connectivity and configuration options and - if configured incorrectly in relation to the desired outcomes of your rig - can cause sound output issues. Below are some considerations to check in the event such issues arise:
- As a starting point, please ensure the LOOP LEVEL switch for the related FX loop Channel is configured correctly. Use the +4dBu option for line level FX devices; use the -10dBV option for guitar level devices (i.e. pedal format delays)
- Next, check that the DRY WET MIX (Knob & Switch) are set correctly. Configure whether DRY/WET MIX operation is active per CHANNEL using the independent ON/OFF switches; adjust the balance between the DRY SOURCE signal and effected WET signal using the DRY/WET knob for either CHANNEL A or CHANNEL B. If configured correctly, please ensure any connected devices are hooked-up correctly, configured appropriately and powered on
- The DUAL MONO / LINK A>B switch determines the RETURN routing behaviour of Reload II’s FX Loop; In DUAL MONO mode, each RETURN is configured independently in mono, feeding the respective CHANNEL corresponding to the RETURN; In LINK A>B MODE, the signal connected to RETURN A is replicated on RETURN B, irrespective of any source connected to RETURN B. If running Reload II in Dual Mono operation, please ensure the FX loop is configured in a similar manner to avoid any signal interruption or signal replacement
- Finally please ensure the FX loop is not disengaged if using a companion footswitch (sold separately)
- If a footswitch is connected, please press the switch to engage / disengage the FX loop. If no sound output is present when the FX loop is engaged, this indicates a problem elsewhere in your signal chain, or in the configuration of the FX loop itself. If no sound output is present when the FX loop is disengaged, this indicates a problem with the front panel CHANNEL and related output configuration - or faulty/incorrect cabling used to connect sources and/or monitoring peripherals.
- Please be advised, the FOOTSWITCH A+B / A/B can be used to set the behaviour of Reload II’s Footswitch input in line with either TS or TRS equipped footswitches:
- A/B: Select for use with a TRS footswitch. Here, the switch connected to “Tip” will control the On/Off state of CHANNEL A and the switch connected to “Ring” will control the On/Off state of Channel B
- A+B : Select for use with a TS footswitch. Here the Switch connected to “Tip” will control the On/Off state of both CHANNELS
