What source can be used at the input of Reload II?

Torpedo Reload II - Reload II Source Compatibility FAQs

Whether it’s a Modeller, Fly-Rig, Amplifier or Amp Sim, Reload II is spec’d to deliver on any mandate. In the following help desk article, we outline what devices can be connected to the Input stage of Reload II through a series of connectivity-centric FAQs.

Can I connect my Guitar or Bass Directly to Reload II?

In short, no. Reload II is specified to accept Amplifier or Line Level sources only. To connect a Guitar or Bass to Reload II, the Instrument Level signal outputted by the Guitar or Bass needs to be converted to a Line Level signal. This can be actioned using a preamplifier or any processing device that accepts an Instrument Level signal and outputs a Line Level feed - a good example being our ReVolt Series Amp sims.

Can I connect my Modeller or Amp Sim Directly to Reload II?

Providing your Modeller of Amp Sim outputs a Line Level output, you certainly can! Simply connect the output(s) of your Amp Sim or Modeller to LINE IN A and/or LINE IN B on the reverse of the device and ensure the front-panel CHANNEL Source selectors are set to LINE. Note that you can use a balanced (TRS jack) or unbalanced (TS jack) cable to connect your Line-Level device to Reload II’s LINE input(s).

Can I connect my amplifier to Reload II?

You certainly can! Reload II is compatible with tube and solid state amplifiers rated up to 200W RMS. Please only connect amplifiers to the AMP IN connector located at the rear of the unit. Always use a speaker cable for the connection between the amp’s speaker output and Reload II’s AMP IN. When connecting an amplifier, please ensure an impedance match between the output tap of the amplifier and Reload II, selected via the AMP IMPEDANCE selector located at the rear of the unit (compatible Load Box impedance ratings include 4-, 8-, 16Ω).

Can I connect my Pedalboard or FX Pedals to Reload II?

Provided the FX Pedal in question - or the last FX Pedal in your Pedalboard’s signal chain - outputs a Line Level Signal, these can be connected to the LINE IN A and/or LINE IN B connectors on the reverse of the device. If the Pedals in question do not output a Line Level signal, a preamplifier or similar will need to be used to convert the Instrument Level signal to the required Line Level feed. Note that you can use a balanced (TRS jack) or unbalanced (TS jack) cable to connect your Line-Level device to Reload II’s LINE input(s).

Does Reload II feature an Aux Input?

Reload II does not feature a dedicated Aux input, however with its twin channel architecture and comprehensive FX loop capability, an Aux feed can be integrated into the device. The following highlights options to route an Aux feed into Reload II’s architecture:

  • Either connect your Line Level Aux device to either LINE IN A or LINE IN B to route your playback device through one of Reload II’s Channels
  • Connect your Aux device to the CHANNEL A RETURN or CHANNEL B RETURN within Reload II’s FX loop, ensuring the DRY / WET MIX selector for the related Channel is set to ON and the DRY WET knob is turned up to allow the WET (Aux) signal to be heard.

Can I connect my Audio Interface to Reload II to Re-Cab a Previously Recorded Amp DI or a Software Amplifier?

You can indeed! Simply connect the desired Line Level outputs of your interface using balanced cables (either XLR to TRS jack, or TRS to TRS jack) to the LINE IN A or LINE IN B connectors on the rear panel of Reload II and set the front-face Channel Source Selector(s) to LINE. This will permit re-cabbing of a previously recorded amplifier DI or provide an amplification source for a software-based amp simulator (i.e. GENOME’s TSM / TSM-Ai Amplifier Models). The resultant signal can then be amplified via the CAB OUT A and CAB OUT B outputs, with the resultant volume controlled by the CAB controls on the front-face of the device.
