Using a footswitch with Torpedo Reload II's effects loop

Torpedo Reload II | Using a Footswitch With Reload II ‘s FX Loop

Looking to control Reload’s II effects loop with a footswitch? Read on for our connectivity suggestions relating to this.

Types of Compatible Footswitches

Reload II’s FX Loop can be switched on and off with an external footswitch connected to the FOOTSWITCH socket located at the rear of the unit. Both TS and TRS footswitches can be used for this purpose. It is not possible to use other types of footswitches with Reload II.

TS Footswitch Setup

To setup Reload II with a TS Footswitch, please follow the guidelines below:

  • Connect your single-button TS jack footswitch to Reload II’s FOOTSWITCH socket
  • Set the FOOTSWITCH behaviour selector to A+B
  • When pressing the footswitch, CHANNEL A & B's FX Loop will switch on or off simultaneously

TRS Footswitch Setup

To setup Reload II with a TRS Footswitch, please follow the guidelines below:

  • Connect your dual-button TRS footswitch to Reload II’s footswitch socket
  • Set the selector to A/B
  • A TRS footswitch will allow you to turn on or off each channel’s FX Loop independently
  • The Tip (T) of the footswitch’s TRS jack will control CHANNEL A’s FX Loop
  • The Ring (R) of the footswitch’s TRS jack will control CHANNEL B’s FX Loop

Please note: During development of Reload II we have tested various TS and TRS footswitches, with and without LEDs. Our tests have been carried out with Marshall®, Laney®, Laboga®, Invaders®, and Randall® footswitches. During testing conducted with footswitches equipped with LEDs, it was recorded - in one instance - that when the footswitch’s LED was on, the FX Loop in Reload II was off, and vice versa. This reversed behavior of the footswitch is independent of Reload II’s effects loop design, and is linked to the design of the footswitch itself. Please be advised, this reversed behavior does not damage Reload II or the companion footswitch.
