On some Windows setups, you may experience display issues with GENOME; symptoms include:
- The plug-in opens, but only a black screen is displayed
- The plug-in opens and is displayed, but when using the STUDIO EQ and/or the STUDIO Compressor, animations within these components result in the plug-in lagging
- Some users have reported that after 10 to 20 seconds, GENOME starts to lag and does not respond when both architectural and component-level parameters are altered
- Glitches in the display of the software
Please see the sections below for step-by-step workarounds to rectify these display issues.
Symptom | Only a Black Screen is Displayed When GENOME Opens
To rectify this issue, please follow the steps below:
- Close your DAW
- Reboot your computer
- Open the Notepad app and create a “noopengl.txt” file (please refrain from putting any text in the file - this should be saved as a blank contents file).
- Save the file to the folder Documents\TwonotesAudioEngineering\Genome\Preferences
- Open your DAW and insert GENOME on an audio track
Symptom | Animations Within the STUDIO EQ and/or the STUDIO Compressor Cause GENOME to Lag
To rectify this issue, please follow the steps below:
- Open the hamburger menu, located in the top left corner of GENOME
- Open the drop-down menu “Preferences” in the “Settings” section
- Select the “No Animations (OpenGL Acceleration)” option to remove the graphic animations in the STUDIO EQ and the STUDIO Compressor; note that this option maintains use of your graphics card’s driver for supplementary processing
- Alternatively, select “No Animations (Compatibility Mode)” to bypass your graphics card entirely and only use your computer’s CPU. Please note however that this option may lead to GENOME operating slightly slower.
Symptom | Glitches in the display in other parts of the software
Some Windows setups have 2 graphics cards (or more): one integrated with your CPU and the other being a dedicated graphics card. This setup may lead the DAW to use the slowest graphics card available, and create display-centric issues. To rectify this issue, please follow the steps below:
- Open the “System” window (type System in the taskbar’s search function)
- On the “Home” page, click “Display”
- Scroll down to the “Graphics” Menu Item (in the Related Settings section)
- Within the "Add an app" section, click on Browse button and locate your DAW’s .exe file to be included in the “Custom options for apps” list.
- Once your DAW is located, click on the “Options” button. This will open the following pop-up window.
- Select the High Performance preference in the pop-up window.
