How to Use GENOME with a Captor X

How to Use GENOME with a Captor X

GENOME has been specified to work seamlessly alongside our flagship reactive load box, the Captor X.

Considerations for all Captor X Setup Scenarios

As GENOME is a plugin application, you will need to have the following studio peripherals available to integrate Captor X into a GENOME-centric workflow

  • An audio interface with suitable line level inputs
  • A Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) in which GENOME can be instantiated
  • Suitable cabling to connect Captor X to your audio interface

For real-time playback, configuring your audio settings within your DAW is paramount:

  • Make sure you are using the latest drivers for your audio interface for Windows; if your audio interface does not have dedicated drivers, use a third-party ASIO4ALL driver
  • Set your buffer size and latency to as low as possible; when using GENOME if you experience pops and clicks while playing, you will need to raise this buffer / latency setting until these non-desirable artefacts are no longer audible. For guides on setting your audio preferences in all mainstream DAWs, please refer to the following articles:
    1. "Logic Pro"
    2. "Ableton Live"
    3. "Pro Tools"
    4. "Cubase"
    5. "Studio One"
    6. "GarageBand"
  • Finally, if your interface features a zero-latency monitoring/direct monitoring option, please ensure this is disabled to avoid hearing your GENOME-processed and DI signal simultaneously

Technical Setup

  • Connect Captor X’s XLR output into your audio interface. For a mono setup, only use the LEFT output of the Captor X
  • Create one or two audio tracks (if you are actioning a mono or a stereo recording respectively) in your DAW and configure the input and output routing in accordance with the input and output specifications of your interface
  • Load GENOME on the audio track to apply the plugin's effects to your recorded signal

Using GENOME in a Setup Where Captor X is Sending a Mono Signal

In this setup, the Captor X sends the full amp signal to GENOME through the LEFT XLR output. For best tonal results, do not use the following Components in GENOME:

  • TSM Amplifiers or CODEX
  • Drive PEDALS
  • The DynIR Engine or IR Loader (this processing is already provided by the Captor X)

You can then use GENOME’s suite of Post FX to build on your tone, and use GENOME’s Dual Lane routing options to create stereo Post FX rigs.

Using GENOME Where Captor X is Used in STEREO Mode

In this setup, both XLR outputs of the Captor X are connected to the audio interface, and the Torpedo Processing within Captor X is set to STEREO. Create a stereo audio track and insert GENOME on the track.

Advanced Setup Using Captor X's DUAL MONO Mode

When tracking, using your interface’s zero latency monitoring mode is a great way of negating any buffer/latency issues within your DAW. With Captor X's DUAL MONO mode, the BYPASS TORPEDO PROCESSING on the right XLR output allows you to send a dry amp DI signal from the RIGHT output in tandem with a fully-processed signal from the LEFT XLR output.

Connect both XLR outputs of the Captor X to your audio interface, and create 2 mono audio channels in your DAW - one for the full processed Torpedo signal and one for the dry amp signal. Insert GENOME on each channel.

On the full Torpedo signal channel (sourced from Captor X's left XLR output), for optimal tonal results do not use the following Components in GENOME:

  • TSM Amplifiers or CODEX
  • Drive PEDALS
  • The DynIR Engine or IR Loader (this processing is already provided by the Captor X)

You can then use GENOME’s suite of Post FX to build on your tone, and use GENOME’s Dual Lane routing options to create stereo Post FX rigs.

On the dry amp DI channel (sourced from  the Captor X's right XLR output), for optimal tonal results do not use the following Components in GENOME:

  • TSM Amplifiers or CODEX
  • Drive PEDALS

You can then use GENOME’s DynIR Engine, IR Loader and suite of Post FX to build on your tone. For stereo Post FX rigs use GENOME’s Dual Lane routing options.
