When the Torpedo Live is OFF, the loadbox is not running, the Speaker Input is wired to a 220-Ohm security load.
When the Torpedo Live is ON, an active switch relay activates the loadbox so the amplifier "sees" the nominal 8-Ohm reactive loadbox. The DC impedance of the reactive loadbox is set around 25 Ohms.
When you are playing your amplifier, the power sent to the Torpedo Live is turned into heat. The purpose of the high-quality Maglev fan placed at the back of the Torpedo Live is to extract that heat and cool the unit down.
At first, the fan will run slowly (or not at all); it will start rotating as soon as the temperature is high enough. That way, you can operate in silence by choosing a suitable amount of power (the output volume) on your amplifier.
Two things may happen while you are playing:
Once the Security Load is activated, your amplifier will see the higher impedance and cease sending too much power. An amplifier can widthstand a higher impedance rating but we recommend bypassing the power amplifier as soon as possible. Let the Torpedo Live cool down to a proper temperature, and the warning notice will disappear as soon as the temperature is back to normal.
In the instance you continue playing, the sound is switched off until the temperature returns to a normal level.
(*) Note: You should not be playing when the Security Load is active. Your amp is safe when powered up on the security load, but it is nonetheless unsafe to play on the Security Load for extended periods of time.
