Capture Studio | Understanding Reamp Boxes, Loadboxes, and DI Units

To perform an accurate and safe capture in Two notes Capture Studio, it is essential to understand the role of key hardware components in your signal chain. This article explains what each device does and why it is required.

Reamp Box

A reamp box is used to connect your audio interface to your amplifier input. In Capture Studio, the interface sends a test signal during capture. However, this signal is line-level, while your amplifier expects an instrument-level, high-impedance signal (like a guitar). The reamp box converts the interface output to the correct format.

In Capture Studio, this ensures:
  • The amplifier responds as it would to a real guitar
  • Gain structure and tone remain accurate
  • The capture reflects the true behaviour of the amp

Loadbox

A loadbox is required when capturing from an amplifier’s speaker output. Tube amplifiers must always be connected to a load. A loadbox safely replaces the speaker and allows the amplifier to operate correctly while providing a usable output signal.

In Capture Studio, this allows you to:
  • Capture the full amplifier signal safely
  • Model lacks expected range or responsiveness
  • Send a controlled signal back to your audio interface

⚠ Never connect a speaker output directly to an audio interface.

DI (Direct Injection) Unit

A DI unit converts a signal to a balanced, line-level output suitable for recording. In a Capture Studio setup, a DI is often integrated within a loadbox and is used to:

  • Adapt the signal returning from the amplifier
  • Provide a clean, balanced output to the interface

In Capture Studio, this ensures:

  • Clean signal transfer back into the interface
  • Reduced noise and interference
  • Stable capture conditions

How These Work Together

In a typical Capture Studio setup:

  • Audio Interface → Reamp Box → Amplifier → Loadbox / DI → Audio Interface

Each component plays a specific role:

  • Reamp Box → feeds the amp correctly
  • Loadbox → protects the amp and replaces the speaker
  • DI → returns a clean signal to the interface
