Advanced Routing Options in Captor X +

Advanced Routing Options in Captor X +

Captor X + builds upon the output flexibility of its predecessor with enhanced STEREO and DUAL/MONO routing modes courtesy of an all-new True Stereo DynIR™/ IR Engine.

Available Advanced Routing Options at a Glance

With Captor X +, the following routing options are now available:

  • Independent mic/IR positioning & panning (in STEREO mode)
Place and pan two microphones or static IRs independently to create a 3D stereo soundstage. For each Mic or IR Channel there is now a dedicated Mic pan control and independent Mic EQ. The Output stage features a Stereo Enhancer, Stereo REVERB and the TWIN TRACKER.
  • Dual Mono with per-side control (in DUAL/MONO Mode)
Each XLR output automatically receives its own mic/IR channel, with independent mic- and post-FX chains per mic/output for precise tonal control; the Post FX Suite available for each Mic Channel includes a Mic EQ, a mono ENHANCER, a Mono REVERB and an Output EQ; Optionally, DUAL/MONO can operate in a mode where both microphones (or both IRs) are combined into a single blended signal post the Mic EQ and ENHANCER stages, using the MIC A/B Mixdown (Virtual Cabinet Mode) or the IR A/B Mixdown (IR Loader Mode) switches; in this configuration, the blended signal is sent to both XLR outputs, each of which still features its own independent Output Post-FX chain (REVERB and an Output EQ) for output-specific tonal shaping.

Step-by-Step: How to Configure Advanced Stereo Routing in Captor X

  1. Connect & select your preset
    1. Connect Captor X to your Computer via the supplied USB Cable and open Torpedo Remote.
      1. Please note: for wireless connections, simply open the Torpedo Remote Application on your Phone or Tablet and connect your Captor X to the wireless remote.
    2. Load the preset you want to edit (or start a new one).
  2. Choose a routing mode
    1. In the Output / Routing section, select STEREO or DUAL/MONO.
  3. Configure the True Stereo DynIR™ Engine
    1. Choose two microphones or static IRs.
      1. In STEREO mode: position and pan each mic independently to build your stereo field
      2. In DUAL/MONO mode: each mic/IR is automatically routed to its own XLR output (no manual assignment needed); if you desire a blended signal of both Microphone or IR channels to be sent to the XLR Outputs, engage the MIC A/B Mixdown or IR A/B Mixdown switch
  4. Per Mic or IR Channel FX Processing
    1. In both the STEREO and DUAL/MONO routing modes, each microphone features its own MIC/IR EQ selectable using the MIC FX/IR FX MIC A/MIC B / IR A/IR B switch.
    2. In DUAL/MONO mode only, each microphone features its own ENHANCER selectable using the MIC FX/IR FX MIC A/MIC B / IR A/IR B switch.
  5. Per-channel Output Post-FX (DUAL/MONO Mode Only)
    1. Reveal Post-FX for the Left and Right outputs individually using the OUTPUT FX LEFT/RIGHT Switch
    2. Apply independent REVERB and Output EQs for the Left and Right XLR Outputs
  6. Stereo Output Post-FX (STEREO Mode Only)
    1. In STEREO mode, configure a Stereo Enhancer, Stereo REVERB and the TWIN TRACKER, audible via both XLR Outputs
  7. Headphone monitoring
    1. Please note, Captor X’s Headphone output mirrors your XLR routing. Verify balance, width, and levels on headphones for quick auditioning.
  8. (Optional) Combine with Virtual Load Shaper
    1. If desired, enable the Virtual Load Shaper to tailor your direct (XLR/headphones) tone’s feel by selecting one of the available impedance curve profiles or create your own using the CUSTOM mode
  9. Level, save, and test
    1. Set output levels, save your preset, and audition through your interface/console and headphones.

Tips & Troubleshooting

  • Troubleshooting: Hearing mono?
Check that STEREO mode is selected and both mics/IRs are panned/positioned (not stacked dead-center).
  • Troubleshooting: Only one side has effects?
  • In DUAL/MONO, first check that the BYPASS switch above the right channel fader is not engaged. If disengaged, open the Mic- and Post-FX for both output channels—remembering the settings are independent and will need to be applied separately to both mic/IR channels—and check Dry/Wet positions for the Enhancer and Reverb are not set to 100% Dry.
  • Troubleshooting: The connected Cab sounds different than the XLR/headphone outputs?
That’s expected: Captor X’s cabinet output is always unaffected by the Virtual Load Shaper, DynIR/IR engine, and Post-FX.
  • Tips: Level management
After widening or splitting, it is wise to rebalance your output levels to avoid clipping or uneven sends to FOH/recording.
